Homemade Chipotle Pepper BBQ Sauce
It's easy to make your own fantastic chipotle BBQ sauce. We'll walk you through the simple steps so you can have fresh BBQ sauce whenever you want.
Ingredients
- 2 diced onions
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- Several chipotles in adobo, to taste
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup coffee
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
Directions
1) Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pot over medium-high heat
2) Saute the onion and garlic until translucent, about 3-6 minutes
3) Place all remaining ingredients into pot and simmer gently for 20-30 minutes
4) Blend the sauce until smooth
5) Continue simmering until it is the consistency you desire
Notes
You can try many variations on this sauce:
- Use honey or molasses in place of the brown sugar
- Try different type of vinegar
- Use more or less chipotles for a different heat level
- Try replacing half the onion with diced sweet red peppers
You can store the excess sauce for several weeks in the refrigerator or freeze for later use.
